Mr. Abraham Varghese (Appapan) was born on June 22, 1938, to Late Itty Abraham and Late Annamma Itty at Vettikunnel Pulickachira House in Mukkoottuthara, Erumely. He was the youngest of six siblings and was well known as our "Pulickachira Pappachan" while he was living in Kerala.
He was a businessman and farmer who devoted his life to his family, church, and community. His journey to faith began at Mar Ignatius Jacobite Syrian Church in Erumely. He immigrated to the United States in 1989 with his family in hopes for a better future and opportunities for his children. His radiant smile, uplifting words of wisdom, selflessness, and humility touched the lives of everyone around him.
Abraham Varghese lovingly referred to as Appapan, was a dedicated husband to Aleyamma Varghese, a devoted father to Raju, Shaji, Mini, and Jessly, a wonderful father-in-law to Sally, Silgy (late), Viju, and Sinjo, and a proud grandfather to Melissa, Messina, Shelby, Sheen, Shane, Shemil, Ashny, Shanya, and Olivia. Though Appapan lived a quiet life, he had an extraordinary ability to make everyone feel deeply loved and valued. His unwavering devotion to his family and bringing joy to his grandchildren ensures his legacy will live on.
Throughout his life, Appapan embraced every opportunity to spread the Word of God with profound joy and a glowing spirit. His deep love for God and devotion to studying the Bible will be remembered with great fondness. Appapan was an active member of St. Thomas Indian Orthodox Church in Philadelphia, and he enthusiastically participated in the Men's Forum and various other church events. Appapan actively lived out the Word that he preached and set an example for those around him.
Appapan entered into the presence of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on August 24th, 2024, surrounded by his wife, children, and grandchildren. Appapan's legacy of faith, kindness, and love will continue to inspire and uplift those who knew him. His memory remains a guiding light and a source of comfort, as we carry forward the lessons and love he shared.
